1: Study Abroad Appendix: Members of the Council on International Educational Exchange |
ABOUT CIEE The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is a nonprofit educational organization with offices in the United States, Europe, and Asia. In nearly fifty years of service to the educational community, CIEE and its travel subsidiaries, Council Travel and Council Charter, have emerged as three of the foremost organizations concerned with international education and student travel.
CIEE was founded in 1947 to help reestablish student exchange after World War II. In its early days, CIEE chartered ocean liners for transatlantic student sailings, arranged group air travel, and organized orientation programs to prepare students and teachers for educational experiences abroad. Over the years CIEE's mandate has broadened dramatically as the interests of its member institutions have spread beyond Europe to Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Today, CIEE's responsibilities include developing and administering study, work, and voluntary service programs throughout the world; publishing books, academic papers, and informational material on international educational exchange; and facilitating inexpensive international travel for students, teachers, and other budget travelers.
